The US warns Rwanda for supporting M23

US Government issued a stern warning to President Kagame and cautioned him and his government about his support to M23 .

Information reaching Umuvugizi newspaper confirm that the US issued a stern warning to President Kagame, and cautioned him and his government about his support to M23 and Gen Ntaganda, the rebel group’s leader.

The US administration warning comes after a UN scathing report that exposed and pinned President Kagame and his government’s involvement in the recent wave of violence in eastern parts of DRC. In the UN experts report, there is evidence that the Rwandan government takes part in the recruitment and supply of arms and ammunitions to M23 rebel group fighting the DRC army.

Victoria Nuland, the spokesperson of the US State department informed the media that the US is saddened by the UN experts report, which pointed out that Rwanda is behind the recent violence and war in the eastern parts of DRC. During this media press conference, she strongly castigated the Rwandan government and under the leadership of Kagame to cease immediately their support to the M23 rebel group.

Rwandans and Congolese, together are glad about the US decision to uphold the UN experts report, and more important the US strong condemnation of President Kagame’s personal involvement in the formation of M23 in his pursuit to continue destabilizing the eastern parts of DRC. The US, UK, Sweden, among other European countries are the biggest donor countries to Rwanda, and therefore their respective strong and stern warning against President Kagame’s thirst to destabilize is seen as the only way to stop him from supporting M23, and eventually bring durable peace and stability in the region.

On Saturday June 30, there were reports of heavy fighting in the eastern parts of Congo where the rebels under the leadership of General Ntaganda continue to fight DRC government troops.
