Rwanda Government employees sacked without notice and terminal benefits.
Information reaching Umuvugizi confirm that government employees continue to lose their jobs without formal termination employment notice as stipulated by law. The Rwandan government is carrying out a silent and systematic exercise of terminating her employees’ work contract in total violation of the right to notify the employee on stipulated time. After axing many employees of ISAE Busoga and Electrogaz, the government has swiftly moved to NAEB, formally an agency called OCIR Café and OCIR tea, and RHODA, and now called National Agricultural Export Development Board) to axe more employees, again without granting them a notice to terminate their employment contract.According to the information reaching Umuvugizi desk, it has been confirmed that last Friday June 29, 2012, about 40 employees were summoned by NAEB administration and handed over letters terminating their respective employment contract. The decision to fire them was done without giving them terminal benefits, again as required by the labor law.
Speaking to the affected employees, Corneille Ntakirutimana, the deputy Director General of NAEB with a high degree of arrogance and irony addressed the affected employees in the following words: “you get out of here, you have been fired without notice and terminal benefits to enable the government hire other new employees out there”.
Employees in government parastatals organizations are alarmingly calling for assistance because of what they refer to as gross violation of their rights. In their lamenting call, they informed Umuvugizi that they are suffering a lot of injustices, and are afraid that they have no way to seek or appeal against the government systematic and endemic abuse and violation of their rights, since according to them even the judiciary and the courts of law are politically controlled and managed by the politicians. According to these employees, judges are scared to administer justice because of fear of political leaders who are in charge of running these government parastatal organizations.
Attached on this story is evidence about the injustices and gross violations of employees’ human and employment rights by the Rwandan government.Agaba Godwin, Kenya.
