The Swedish government is freezing aid Rwanda was supposed to receive from the African Development Bank in the month of September this year, if Rwanda does not stop its military support to M23, a rebel group that continues to fight against the government in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Umuvugizi has learnt from reliable sources.

This financial aid that is close to $39.9 millions, has been freezed until Rwanda agrees to pull out of the DR Congo conflict.

One of the senior officials in the executive committee of the African Development Bank, also originating from Sweden, who is also the one that has been actively involved in the freezing of the multi-million grant for Rwanda, said: “Sweden is very much saddened  especially with a report by UN experts last month which accused Rwanda of helping create, arm and support the M23 rebel movement in violation of UN sanctions. We want Rwanda together with its neighbors to have a role in bringing peace in Eastern DRC.” He further added: “The chances that Rwanda recieves that money again is in the hands of Rwanda.”
